Key Accountabilities
Contribute to Business Development
- Through scientific excellence, actively support and leverage business opportunities within existing and/or new accounts with client and industry contacts in collaboration with Account Management and Business Development teams
- Provide scientific strategy (understand scientific landscape, clinical and commercial implications), input, and direction on new business opportunities and key accounts and confidently recommend solutions to clients reflective of strategic and innovative thinking, demonstrating an in-depth understanding of medical communications service offerings (thereby reflecting the organization's capability to support client needs)
- Generate new or repeat business due to leveraging of personal relationships within client group or history of client satisfaction and/or relationship
- Participate in proposal and pitch development and new business presentations to client(s)
Scientific Excellence
- Provide leadership in scientific strategy and writing, both internally and from the clients' perspective, across business opportunities and designated accounts
- Use in-depth knowledge of medical science, pharmacology/therapeutics, and communications strategy in the development and implementation (delivery) of communication plans for designated accounts
- Lead/manage designated medical communication programs and undertake writing, editing, and reviewing of scientific content for a range of publications and communication programs according to client needs at the highest level, setting the bar for other writers/scientific account leads
- Undertake the full range of duties relevant to the scientific leadership and development of the writing team (coaching and mentoring other writers) to facilitate performance that meets and/or exceeds client expectations in terms of quality, timing, and costs, and to develop writers' abilities to meet business needs and personal goals/objectives
- Develop/provide input into scoping and budgeting of projects and programs and support financial monitoring to maximize editorial profitability of assigned accounts
- Work directly with external KOLs/Faculty on projects or programs, gaining their trust and respect and ensuring that the experience of working with medical communications only enhances the physician's relationship with the client
- Attend client meetings to provide high-level scientific and communications strategy input
- Attend meeting events being delivered by medical communications for its clients, providing leadership onsite as needed and actively participating in finding solutions to any issues or challenges that may arise during the course of the event
- Maintain a positive, results-oriented work environment, building partnerships and modelling teamwork, communicating to the team in an open, balanced, and objective manner
- Contribute to formal staff review processes, e.g., performance reviews, to corporate standards and timescales
Scientific Advice
- Provide range of scientific advice within personal area of expertise
- Facilitate client decision-making by framing issues, presenting options, and providing objective scientific advice
- Acts as an advisor to clients, often on issues that lack precedence or are not clearly defined, and demonstrate ability to satisfy clients' objectives/needs
- Bring insights from client perspective and actively participate in the development of new service offerings, in conjunction with Account Management
Thought Leadership
- Represent medical communications capabilities and expertise by occasionally presenting speeches or seminars to industry groups
- Represent medical communications capabilities and expertise by authoring articles for publication in industry magazines, newsletters, book chapters, and other forums
- Contribute expertise to professional societies, academic or other similar groups influential in area of expertise.
Education / Work experience
- Degree and a higher degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or Medicine (BSc, BA, PharmD, PhD, MD)
- Extensive agency experience and proven authoritative interactions with clients and KOLs
- In-depth experience in delivery of the key offerings and services within medical education (medical communications)
- Demonstrated versatility in gaining in-depth disease, market, and product understanding and adept at understanding scientific issues and their commercial implications
- Demonstrated experience as a scientific advisor providing scientific and strategic input to accounts
